Description
OverviewAbout the Club Established in 1919 by prominent Amarillo banker and oilman Charles A. Fisk, Amarillo Country Club holds the distinction of being the first country club in the Texas Panhandle. From its earliest days, ACC has served as a social and recreational hub for the region's business and professional community, fostering a legacy of tradition, hospitality, and exceptional member experiences for more than a century.
The Club's original golf course was designed by William McConnell, laying the foundation for a program that would go on to host notable golfers and become one of the area's most respected golf venues. Throughout its history, ACC has continued to reinvest in its facilities to ensure a premier private-club experience. After the original clubhouse was lost to fire in the early 1930s, a new clubhouse designed by architect Guy Carlander opened in 1933. Subsequent enhancements to the golf course included revisions by Warren Cantrell in 1960 and noted architect Jay Morrish in 1983, each contributing to the evolution and quality of the golf experience.
In 2012, Amarillo Country Club completed a transformative modernization project led by D.A. Weibring and Steve Wolfard. This extensive renovation included the redesign of six holes, significant course modernization, and improvements to the clubhouse, golf shop, and tennis courts, solidifying ACC's commitment to blending tradition with continuous improvement.
Today, Amarillo Country Club remains a private club offering golf, inviting dining venues, vibrant event spaces, tennis, fitness, and year-round social programming. The golf program continues to be a central pillar of the club's culture, attracting players of all ages through competitive events, instructional opportunities, and welcoming camaraderie. The Head Golf Professional joins this rich legacy and plays a key role in shaping the continued excellence of ACC's golf experience.

Experience Required
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for the Head Golf Professional position is a well-rounded, hands-on leader with a deep understanding of private club culture and an unwavering commitment to delivering a high quality, member-focused golf experience. This individual operates with professionalism, integrity, and consistency, ensuring that all members are treated with equal respect and that no member or group receives preferential treatment. They understand that the success of the golf program depends on fairness, visibility, and fostering relationships across the entire membership, not just a select few.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years of professional golf management experience, ideally serving as a Head Golf Professional at a full-service private club or as a distinguished First Assistant at highly respected clubs. They bring proven expertise in golf operations, staff leadership, instruction, merchandising, tournament administration, and outside services. They also must demonstrate experience interfacing with and supporting Golf Committees, as well as working collaboratively with Men's and Ladies Golf Associations. Their leadership style is hands-on, engaged, and rooted in daily operational presence, with a demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and retain high-quality professional staff, which is essential to the success of ACC's golf operation. In addition, they possess knowledge of USGA handicap System guidelines and experience fairly managing handicaps and score posting in a manner that promotes integrity and consistency across the membership.

Their goal is to create an inclusive, vibrant, and engaging golf calendar that appeals to all demographics.
Equally important, the ideal candidate maintains a consistent presence on the course, playing with members of all groups, ages, and skill levels, not just familiar or preferred circles. They encourage their assistant professionals to do the same, recognizing that visibility, relationship building, and member engagement are core components of the ACC golf experience.
This individual also understands the importance of structure and accountability. They must consistently enforce ACC golf rules and policies, never applying situational enforcement and ensure that expectations for pace of play, course care, attire, and etiquette are upheld fairly and professionally. Their approach promotes respect for the Club's traditions while supporting continuous improvement in member experience.
In addition, the ideal candidate is proficient in golf management technologies, including point-of-sale systems, instructional platforms, tee-sheet management, and tournament software. They are organized, technologically capable, and comfortable using systems that enhance efficiency, communication, and service. They must also be able to develop, manage, and oversee the golf operations budget, ensuring financial responsibility and alignment with the Club's strategic goals.
Above all, the ideal candidate is a polished, steady, and service driven professional who embodies ACC's values, builds strong relationships, models fairness, and leads the golf operation with passion, humility, and a genuine desire to elevate the golf culture at Amarillo Country Club.
