Established in 1920, Old Hickory Golf Club is one of the oldest and most respected golf courses in Wisconsin. In addition to the outstanding golf course, Old Hickory offers a full-service restaurant and banquet facility with the best views in the area. The dynamic mix of membership and public play creates a well rounded golf club in a supportive community. The Old Hickory Golf Club Golf Shop is a full-service Golf Shop, stocked with well known apparel and equipment. It is the hub of golf activity at Old Hickory Golf Club and a friendly gathering place before starting on the first tee.
Position Description:
The Head Golf Professional will work under the guidance of the Ownership to oversee and manage day to day golf operations and work cooperatively with others. The position will promote an exceptional "golf experience," and provide fresh, innovative and relevant services and programs to all patrons. He/She is responsible for ensuring that all golf operations are consistently managed and run with a strong member and guest focus. The need to ensure that all elements of the golf experience are fun and well organized is imperative, as is the need for someone to take active involvement in programming for men, women and juniors to ensure that all participants are enthused about the program and their involvement. The golf experience is the strongest element of member recruitment, retention and satisfaction at Old Hickory Golf Club, and as such the Club needs a candidate who is highly visible and approachable.
Additionally, this position will be expected to resolve customer service issues, assure quality control expectations are met daily, manage communications with staff, assure cleanliness and readiness of the clubhouse and related facilities and amenities, assure accurate daily counts and reports are performed as it relates to inventory control, point of sale reports etc. He/She is expected to provide motivated and passionate leadership to his/her team; working alongside the golf shop staff, cart attendants and other club personnel to accomplish the needed outcomes.
The successful candidate will be highly interactive, leading the operation with enthusiasm and engagement. He/She is the face of golf and also represents the club in the community. Being a proactive ambassador and leader of hospitality is essential.
Experience Required
Experience / Qualifications:
Including, but not limited to, the following:
- PGA of America Member in good standing is preferred
- Consideration will be given to an experienced Assistant Golf Professional at a similar club who is ready to take the next step in his/her career path
- Public golf course experience preferred
- Excellent golf instructor with a desire to help members improve their play and further enjoy the game
- Understanding of current technology as it applies to golf and the club business
- The Head Professional will be expected to work during mornings, evenings, holidays or on weekends for lessons, leagues, special events, and as required by the ownership
Essential Responsibilities
Specific Responsibilities as Golf Professional include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for all day-to-day golf operations at Club to ensure a high level of satisfaction
- Scheduling, training, and supervision of an enthusiastic golf operations team to ensure well defined service standards are met or exceeded
- Assist with annual budget generation and manage golf operations within budget.
- Assist in the implementation of policies and procedures
- Establish clear goals and expectations, provide consistent feedback and assistance to support staff.
- Oversee the reservation system, starting, and monitoring of play
- Track and verify all players and guests, golf cars, handicap fees, and other charges as necessary
- Oversee golf car rentals, storage and maintenance
- Oversee the administration of the handicap program
- Enforce all rules and regulations governing golf course usage
- Lead execution and expansion of player development programs for all customer segments
- Oversee the operations of a well-managed practice facility
- Meet, greet and welcome members, guests and prospective members and patrons
- Maintain close working and supportive relationship with all additional Department Heads
- Coordinate with Food & Beverage team for needs related to events, tournaments and golf functions
- Assist in the marketing and promotion of new memberships / play
- Generate, manage and execute weekly leagues
- Organize, promote, grow and execute a multifaceted Junior and Beginners Golf Program
- Commitment to furthering the member experience
- Recruit, plan and execute private and public outings and tournaments
- Develop and manage an interesting and innovative tournament program
- Assist in all golf-related purchasing; ensure timeliness of member orders
- Manage and attractively display merchandise and maintain proper controls over golf related inventories
- Maintain a profitable merchandise concession that is consistent with demographics and needs
- Assist in maintaining cash and systems controls to ensure the safekeeping of assets, inventory and resources
