Position Summary
The Director, Events & Member Services is a strategic leader responsible for maximizing association member engagement and relationships. This role combines business development acumen with expert event and engagement management, leveraging meetings, workshops, conferences, and social events to unlock new opportunities, deepen existing partnerships, and enhance the organization’s reputation and network. Serve as a trusted advisor and point of contact regarding events for internal stakeholders, key partners, sponsors, and external stakeholders.
Lead the conceptualization, planning, and execution of high-impact events to facilitate business development and stakeholder engagement by ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, providing value to participants and creating opportunities for partnership growth. The National Convention is the main event for the association, but this position will also serve as the event lead for a number of other, annual association events.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
National Convention
Manage multiple projects and provide event planning support for the annual ARTBA National Convention including venue selection, sponsorship generation and management, registration, and event marketing.
o Build and maintain a network of meaningful collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including conference participants, sponsors, and venues.
o Oversee all event logistics, including venue selection, catering, technology, and onsite coordination.
o Collaborate with the creative design team to build the look and feel of the event web pages and marketing materials.
o Help design promotional content and marketing materials for the conference and related events.
o Manage and have responsibility for the end-to-end sponsorship outreach, closing and overall process. This includes the creation and management of sponsor opportunities.
o Manage speaker acquisition, prep calls and asset collection.
o Act as a primary contact for attendees, sponsors, speakers, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
o Gather, analyze, and report key metrics that are aligned with conference goals to help inform overall strategy.
o Serve as the on-site program manager for events including troubleshooting issues and responding to inquiries.
o Set-up and manage content on the conference website, registration platform and mobile application.
o Develop event budget and ensure compliance to budget, expenses, and reconciliation in coordination with accounts payable.
Event Management
o Develop the overall strategy and objectives for a series of annual organizational events.
o Oversee all event logistics, including venue selection, catering, technology, and onsite coordination.
o Ensure seamless execution and adherence to timelines and budgets.
o Manage and have responsibility for the end-to-end sponsorship outreach, closing and overall process.
o Develop event budgets and ensure compliance to budget, expenses, and reconciliation in coordination with accounts payable.
The position is based at ARTBA’s office in Washington, D.C., and reports to the Senior Vice President of Strategic Engagement.
Qualifications
- Proven experience managing large-scale conferences and events.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
- Superior customer service skills with the ability to anticipate and respond to the needs of conference participants and troubleshoot, as necessary.
- Effective written and verbal communication, project management, time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members within and outside of the department, including and member firms as needed.
- Demonstrated success in conceptualizing, developing, and executing digital marketing campaigns.
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and professional demeanor.
- Ability to travel within the United States (less than 20% required).
Technical Skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, PhotoShop, and Illustrator
- Proficient with digital marketing platforms and applications such as content management systems (CMS), customer relationship management systems (CRM), email marketing platforms and analytics applications.
- Proven experience with membership and event management platforms and applications.
- Experience with HTML or coding is preferred.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in any field; with a concentration in Hospitality, Marketing, Integrated Marketing or Communications or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- 5+ years of event management experience. Association experience a plus.
- 5+ years of experience working in a marketing capacity with a strong digital emphasis.
Certificates or Licenses
Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) certification preferred

Expected Salary
The expected salary for this position ranges from $150,00 - $175,000 and is commensurate with experience.
